Delourdes TAFOYA ZAMORA

I was present for aunt Del's birthday a couple of weeks ago along with my mother and we had a wonderful time! The family was well represented by myself, Jane DURAN, Stella BROWN TAFOYA and husband Cruz TAFOYA.

Aunt Del and Uncle Orlando, brother.

100 or more family and friends were invited and arrived for the festivities November 21st (actual birthday was the day before) and all had a wonderful time. Aunt Del, at a cool 90 years young, held her own and as the sun set and the evening blanketed the party in darkness save for the fire pits scattered about the back yard to keep partyer's warm.

The band played great music and I was impressed at how melodic, professional and entertaining they were. The crowed responded and danced, danced, danced.

Dancing ensues...

Aunt Del had a few stories of her own that she imparted on me...one of them was the time her and Emma ZAMORA were alone one night when Emma challenged her to a little drinking game called, " Who Can Hold Their Liquor." Of course, I just gasped and feigned ignorance! My grandmother? Then I just laughed and laughed because, as I would like to think of my grandmother as this perfect angel from the time she was born I knew that she wasn't and that she had a streak of fun wickedness that only a few knew about and really experienced. Aunt Del was one of them and I was happy to have had the chance to learn a few more things about the family through her recollections. I also learned the the men were none to pleased after returning home to find their girls drunk off their keisters!

Photo Above: Two hot looking mamma's...literally! Del TAFOYA ZAMORA, Emma ZAMORA BROWN, Rudy ZAMORA and Johnny ZAMORA (?). The latter two are Del's son's.

Del and Emma were very close as Del married Emma's brother Salcido "Frank" ZAMORA. All of them grew up in the Winston/Chloride area of New Mexico and most likely inter-related as families in remote towns like these were/are descendants of establishing families which, through the decades, married locally and probably have a common ancestor. This was common in those days.

**Charlie Birner often told aunt Del that they were related. Del thought he was just kidding with her but Charlie insisted. During my stay at Johnny's house two weeks ago it came to light that there is a common ancestor by the surname Bourguignonne. I believe aunt Del's mother or grandmother has this surname as well as one of Charlie Birner's grandmother's or mother's. I will speak with him in the next few weeks to find out.

Please leave comments. As this is a private blog (short for web log) you may leave your comments at any time if you have information about the family that you want to share and I started this blog so that our history can be shared with younger and newer generations...and generations to come. Please think of it as your blog.

Here is a photo taken at uncle Samora's ranch. From right to left: Del, Emma, Frank and George.
They are swimming in a stock tank. The tank was for the cows and horses to drink from...and as a
makeshift swimming pool.
